Words selected for the game were sourced from academic vocabulary lists

The application's database content is sourced from WordNet and has been modified to support its use in the Word Sense game.

Levels & Games

Word Sense is categorized into groups, levels, and games.

Each game consists of ten words.

Each level consists of ten games.

There are seven groups of levels:

  • Introductory
  • Basic
  • Mid-Range
  • High-Level
  • Upper-levels 1-3

Introductoy contains one level. The rest contain five.

  • The Introductory level and the first four levels of the Basic group are available to play.
  • Premium content iconPremium Levels & Games content is available in the Purchases section.

The word content in the levels is 'academic progressive' - from an elementary level to secondary and college/university entrance levels.

  • The definitions in the content may contain words that are not understood by the player.
  • It is very important to not go past those words while playing the game.
  • It is possible to look up definitions for those words while playing the game.

Game play starts with the Introductory level.

The next level is not available until a minimal score has been obtained in all ten games of the level being played.

The game status for the level is displayed on the Levels page.



After selecting a level to play, a list of the games for the level and the status of each game is displayed.



The games are numbered 1 - 10 and can be played in any order.

Game Play & Scoring

Scoring:
Each word is worth 5 points.
Hints subtract 1 point.
When 'Giving Up' no points are earned or subtracted.

Play the game:

The game word definitions are displayed randomly 1 through 10.



You can look up words that you do not know in the definitions.
Android: Long Press
iOS: Swipe



Long Press / Swipe on the word then click 'Define This Word'
Google 'define' will open in a new browser window.





After closing the browser page, click 'Return to Game'



Hints:
The first letters of the word are displayed.
You can get up to 2 hints per word.



Click in 'Enter Word' to type in the word.



You'll get notified if you're correct or you've got it wrong.





You can 'Give Up' on the word...



...or end the game.



When you finish the game you'll be notified along with the game score and status
